Roger F. Steinert, MD
Dr. Steinert (1950–2017) served as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, where he held the Irving H. Leopold Professorship. He was a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and is Director of the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. He also served a 2-year term as President of the Medical Staff/Chief of Staff at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. Dr. Steinert is a past president of ASCRS (serving from 2005–2006) and was Program Chair of the ASCRS Annual Meeting for 9 years. He maintained an active consultative practice in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery, and his research interests included on laser technology and the optical rehabilitation of the eye.
